The Types of Balls in Golf
There are two types of balls which are used to play Golf. Selection of Golf balls happens by nothing more than the choice one makes and how one feels towards each type of ball. The difference in the type of ball doesn’t make a huge difference in the game but the difference may arise out of the way you feel towards the game by using each one of them.
Golf balls differ by only the cover that is used on them. There are certainly some other differences that make the difference between both types of balls. Balata and Surlyn are respectively the types of balls used widely and their covers and materials used in them which mark their difference.
Balata balls are softer to hit than any other balls. The softness is felt after the impact. The softness of the ball can lead to cuts and nicks on the surface. Balata balls cost higher than that of any other balls but due to their softer surface and substance they lack durability and might easily wear down.
Surlyn
The core of the Surlyn balls is stronger than that of the Balata balls due to the absence of liquid in the core unlike Balata. The core is actually solid and makes for a stronger core that has very little softness. They are artificially made substances that do not incur cuts and nicks on their surface. Surlyn balls are difficult to play and they can offer lesser backspins on the surface.
Surlyn balls may be the cheaper alternative to those who want balls that have tougher endurance and durability and do not offer much of backspin. They are less prone to cuts and nicks and travel a longer distance than Balata balls. They are not much costlier and are cheap and durable.
Let us say and conclude again that the choice of balls depends upon convenience and personal tastes and choice. Some of you might feel Surlyns feel good to hit and some of you might prefer the softness and the backspin of the Balata. Play both of them and decide upon whether you choose either one of them or both of them.
