Learn to Master Putting
A twitch is all it takes to end a career of years of golfing. Yips is a phenomenon in almost all the sports – Golf, Cricket, Football and all. Recovery is possible as well while some have been forced to quit after the occurrence of yips in their career. In golf, this happens while putting. Some have quit from the game and some have contrastingly turned better after their turn of the yips.
Many of you, who have been affected by the yips, have tried so many alternatives including trying different putters and all those solutions would have worked the least. Let us look into how one can overcome the yips.
Do not turn shaky
When you start to miss out on a putt, fear creeps in and you find it difficult to go for the next put. Try not to think on your past failures near the holes and concentrate on the shot than analyzing your methods in which you have to hit. Try to nullify the fear of failure, that is of not hitting the ball into the hole during a putt and alleviate the fear associated with the yips in putting.
Think you can – Trust yourself
Always think that you can. This is not a self-help book about how to become a millionaire that repeatedly suggests you to be confident until you land into boredom. But this is a real practical solution, which if understood rightly will work rightly. Ponder over your past successful putts and put all your unsuccessful putts in the backburner.
However, you are bound to miss a shot or two, but this is natural, just shrug it off and concentrate on your next shot.
Think in favor of yourself
If miss out on a single putt, you may not be the sole reason behind your failure. Greatest of players do understand that there are a variety of reasons and factors behind the failure of a putt. This prevents them from thinking against themselves and their abilities. Think in favor of yourself that you are not entirely responsible for a bad putt and that some other factors may be. Count on your greatest putts often to make yourself think in favor of yourself.
You know the skill
All of you are able to do it and somewhere down the line, you think you cannot. It is quite natural of us to innately know how to do it but it is fear that inhibits. Think that you know it well and start hitting. This will help you gain confidence and get better!
