Your Brain can help you Golf – Part 2
In part 1 of the article, we have seen some of the problems that the brain can encounter while playing golf. Our past triggers the response to situations that are either similar or different from the past. Golf requires the application of your mind and your brain may have been altered in a way which is either conducive or not compatible with playing golf.
This part will look into how you can overcome the potential problems of the functioning of the brain or the mind and use positive measures of concentration to stay focused on the game.
Picture it right
Picture what you are going to do in this very shot, picture where you want the ball to land and go straight to the tee, address the ball, take your swing and hit it the spot you want to hit. You may or may not succeed in getting it in the right place. Do not think about that. After all, all games are meant to be enjoyed.
You must not go on picturing the previous hole and how you messed up in it, neither the one that you are going to play after this one. Approach each shot bearing in mind that it is a fresh shot. Picture yourself hitting the ball in the spot you want and do not think about if you will or will not or also about how you are going to do it.
Attach no emotions while playing
While playing, be mechanical and think only about the shot you are playing now and after playing, the next shot you are going to take. Attach passion and emotion off the course, where you learn and practice with passion. But when it comes to the game on the course, let your mind do all the talking.
Attaching no emotions related to success and failure can help you perform well. Our mind starts to love the freedom given to act. Just channeling your energy towards the game will help you refocus.
Don’t put pressure on yourself
Do not let the pressure to perform take control of yourself. You are playing only to get better at the game each time you play and not getting better this time will make you an even better player the next time to this time. You are not about to save your past records, retaining your championship (though that may be one of the purposes of playing) or to become a great player after the latest failure.
Play freely without any pressure on yourself and you are here to play only this game. You may take your experience from the past which is natural but it is not necessary to take all the bad as well as good performances to your current game!
