A few jargons before Golf – Part 3

Putting Green

The green where you putt the ball into the hole.

Range Finder

The device that calculates the player’s distance from the hole.

Rough

The boundary of the Fairway marked by Grass that is a little taller than the greens.

Round

The 18 holes of a course are collectively called as Round.

Rub of the Green

The hard luck of the ball being impeded by objects or people who are not part of the game. Nevertheless, it is counted as a stroke.

Sandbagger

Shows himself as a golfer of high-handicap even though he is a low-handicap player. This is a process of cheating that is done to win bets.

Sand Trap

The bunker, where upon hitting, the player is penalized for.

Sand Wedge

A sand wedge club helps you out of the bunker.

Scratch Golfer

A player whose handicap equals zero.

Shaft

The part that connects the club head to the club.

Shank

The shot where the club head doesn’t make contact with the ball and some other part of the club makes contact and the ball goes awkwardly to the right.

Short Game

This game played near the green that involves only Chipping, Putting and Pitching.

Slice

The moment of the ball in the air to the right or left fostered by the sidespin.

Slope

The relative adjustment of your handicap relative to the difficulty of the course.

Spot Putting

If you aim here instead of aiming the hole directly, the ball will automatically go inside the hole.

Stance

The posture and feet positions taken before hitting the ball.

Starter

The one who decides who is to play first, second and so on.

Stroke

The intended shot or the swing that you take and it is counted as a stroke whether or not you hit the ball.

Sweet Spot 

The ideal part of the club head where any contact can give you maximum results.

Swing

The movement of the club before and after hitting the ball.

Tap in

A very short putting done when the ball is very close to the hole.

Tee

A small plastic or wood on which the ball is rested before the first hit as well as the area in which you start the game.

Tee off

To hit your very first shot out of the tee.

Tee up

To place the ball on the tee and begin to play.

Teeing Ground

The marked area where you begin the game. The width of the teeing ground is marked and your game should start within that zone.
