Different Types of Woods
Fairway Woods are the most delightful as they can hit the ball to the longest distance than any other types of clubs. Fairway Woods can be classified into two types of woods which are differentiated with the way they are made. Persimmon woods, one of the types of woods, are made with solid clubheads and the other one, maple, is made of laminated plywood.
Maple is used more than the persimmons and they are known for their durability than the persimmons.
Graphite and Stainless Steel Woods
Graphite heads have a larger sweetspot due to the way they are made. They are made through injected investment casting methods and other methods. They are not known as though they are the most easy-to-use woods of all other types. They have a larger head which make the sweetspot bigger.
Stainless Steel woods, on the other hand, have a bigger sweetspot and head but they are weak and might easily get misshaped and hollow marks might result after continuous impact. This happens, because in order to reduce their weight the walls on the head are made thinner. But then, medium sized woods made of different metals turn very good alternatives by keeping the walls in tact while maintaining the weight at the same time.
Metal Woods
Metal Woods are generally made by investment casting methods where stainless steel is cast in to make metal wood club heads. Casting method keeps the weight under control and metal woods made of stainless steel investment casting have larger sweetspot that helps play long distance shots with comfort and a lot of ease. Clubs made of investment casting methods are easy to play than traditionally made woods and metals.
Metal Clubs with inserts
Getting misshaped, damaged and dented can be alleviated by equipping the face of the club with plastic, graphite and other metals which cover the face during impact. This significantly reduces serious dents and damages on the face. Although, we cannot be sure of the success of this new phenomenon, they are an important value addition from manufacturers which can reduce the impact on to the stainless steel clubs and prolong their usage.
Well, again usage depends on experience. Some of the woods prevent slicing and give you more comfort in the usage. Graphite and Stainless Steel Woods are easy to use and evolutionary changes and value additions are bringing in new types of them with the existing design traits that make up wood clubs.
