A few Jargons before Golf – Part 2
Hole
The hole that the ball must fall into to mark scores.
Hole out
Completing a hole by hitting the ball into the hole.
Honor
The permission to be the first hitter from the tee, subsequently the winner of the first hole takes it in the next holes.
Hook
A special type of shot that takes the ball’s flight sideways.
Hosel
The area in the club where the shaft and the head are connected together.
Inside
An advantage of being close to the ball than your opponent.
Interlocking Grip
To lock the little finger of your leading arm and the index finger of your bottom hand during the grip.
Intended Line
The prediction of where the ball would or should land after a hit.
Iron
Iron clubs with iron clubheads.
Lag
The anticipated putting that expects to win the hole in the next hit.
Lateral hazard
Hazards that are lateral to the play.
Lie
The place where the ball is on the ground after hitting.
Line
The right direction taken which will help the ball into the hole during putting.
Lip
The rim that surrounds the hole.
Loft
The high elevation flight of the ball.
Mallet
The putter’s face is wide and heavy in this type of putter.
Markers
The direction marked by objects that suggest in which direction the teeing should begin.
Marshall
The person in-charge of the green and the spectators.
Nine
A nine hole or an eighteen hole course..
Open Stance
The left foot opens on the target line during the stance to allow free flight of the ball
Out of bounds
Spells trouble and penalty for the player for hitting outside the boundary.
Overlapping grip
Both hands touching each other while gripping with a lock of index finger in the leading arm and the little finger of the bottom hand.
Par
The ceiling on the number of strokes to be played to complete a hole.
Penalty
One more stroke that you have to play for violating rules.
Pitch
Letting the ball take a short flight.
Play off
A tie-breaker that involves one more round.
Provisional ball
The substitute ball taken in place of a lost ball.
Punch
A small Punch that takes a very little flight into the air.
Push
A slight push towards the right of the intended target.
Pull
A slight push towards the left of the intended target.
Putt
The putter, in this shot, gently maneuvers the ball near the hole.
Putt out
To complete one hole by putting the ball into the hole.
Putter
The shaft is relatively smaller and shorter and is used to putt the ball into the hole.
